Hello everyone and welcome back to another season with the
Plattsburgh Women’s Soccer team! It is already a couple of weeks into the
season, and getting everything together with the team has been keeping us busy.
My name is Jill Tardelli and I have taken over the blog this
season and hopefully will be able to live up to fantastic writing Ashley McKenelley
has done. I am a junior on the team from Potsdam NY and I am currently playing
outside midfield for the Lady Cardinals.
To start off, we had a longer preseason than normal. Thirty
ladies came up nine days early to try to get that last name up in the cubby in
the locker room and earn their spot on the team. Preseason took a toll on us with
fitness everyday and practices twice a day. Waking up early was no joke, and
muscles became sore. The ice bath became a second home to many of us where it
would console our bodies. By the end of those nine long days, we got to know
each other through mountain climbing, team dinners and spending what seemed
like hours on the field. Our team of Cardinals was finally united.
We are now seven games into the season and the toll of
preseason did not work in our favor. With a team full of sophomores and
freshmen, we only stand with four juniors and two seniors. This new team is
making strides in creating chemistry on the field and although it has not
exactly been smooth, the kinks are being worked out. With Emily LaLone and
Lauren Gonyea leading the team as captains we are sure to come out on top. At
6:30am every Wednesday the team is up before the sun to beat the competition
and get ready for the day. As we watch the sunrise we decide it is worth it to
be able to play on this field and have the opportunity to do something we love.
We come into this weekend with a record of 2-4-1. We head into the weekend to
play our first SUNYAC game against SUNY Potsdam. After a shutout of 4-0 over
Clarkson we can hopefully use the moment to slingshot our way to win against Potsdam.
With a goal from Emily LaLone, two from Diana DiCocco and one Vicky Scott there
was no doubt that we got into the groove. Our team is lined deep with talent
and with that heart and pride should help to get us through the rest of the
season.
