Sadly .... All Good Things Must Come To An End

I know we have all missed these weekly blog posts just a little bit :) Our season has officially come to an end and I think I can speak for everyone saying I miss it everyday.  I just don't know what to do with myself and all this free time I have now.  I would much rather be spending my time on the soccer field with my teammates who I miss seeing everyday :(

Just a little recap of our SUNYAC playoff run this year:  We came out strong and ready for redemption in our SUNYAC semifinal game vs. Brockport.  With intensity from the first to the last whistle, we all gave it our very best.  With goals from Anissa, Cass and Cait with assists from Mad Sac x2 and myself, we beat Brockport 3-2.  We all believed in ourselves and put on a thrilling game.

We only had a couple practices before the long trek out to Buffalo (9 hours one way people), which were filled with focus and determination.  Although the Buffalo game did not end with the results we had wanted, our team displayed hard work throughout the game.  Our last game did not exemplify all we had conquered in the 2015 season. We ended with a 12-6-2 record, which was the best in program history since 2010.  This season was filled with so many great memories and I was so lucky to experience with a great bunch of girls and awesome coaches :)  The people who lead us to our exciting season was our awesome seniors! It was great becoming teammates, great friends and family with such hardworking and caring people three years ago. Can't even describe how much we will all miss your dance moves next year <3

Seniors 2015
Since season has ended I know most of us have spent long days in the library preparing for finals as well as in the gym because now we can't eat anything we want since we can't "run it off later" at practice.  It's tough but we will make it through as always.

I put a little video together to share with everyone all the laughs and good times this team has had over the last couple of months.  Yes, I did get sad while making it.  So for the teammates watching this, you will most likely get nostalgic and miss the season like I did. Hope you enjoy!!! :)

Well I guess this season's blog has come to a brief ending ... Don't worry I'll write here and there to keep everyone posted on our team's news :) But for now Plattsburgh Women's soccer wishes everyone safe travels home to celebrate Thanksgiving!!  Hope everyone eats lots of delicious food and gets to spend some quality time with your families :)

We Gotta Want It!

Wow .... And just like that regular season is over. WE ARE OFF TO THE PLAYOFFS BABY!!!! With a solid win over Geneseo and a tough tie aganist Brockport this past weekend we earned fourth seed for playoffs .... MEANING we got blessed by getting a home game for the SUNYAC quarterfinals aka no long bus rides this week.  We will be hosting Brockport, yet again, at 3 pm tomorrow at the Field house. We are beyond pumped to get another chance vs. Brockport and it should be a great game to watch!!! I repeat tomorrow 3pm at the field house everyone has to be there :) Quick side note: Our team from 2014 has received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the seventh straight season!!! To earn this award our team must have a cumulative average of a 3.0 during the season. Keep up the good grades and endless hours in the lib ladies!! :)
Uterine Cancer Awareness Game
Our Lovely Seniors
As we were practicing hard this last week (I don't know about anyone else), some emotions were hitting a little harder than usual.  Yepp sorry but I'm feeling a little emotional ;) Wanting to continue our season, everyone gave their all and had a solid week of practice to prepare for this important weekend.  Being a junior, I've been given the opportunity to face adversity with such a great group of ladies.  From facing injuries and not making it into playoffs my freshman year, to making it to playoffs for the first time in a while for PSUWS my sophomore year and now as I reach my junior it's time for the up's and down's to finally be put to the test.

We have worked too hard this whole season not to get the results we want.  As we have our last practice today before quarterfinals, take a moment to think who you have played for this season. Just some special people you may have played for: 1. I played for my beautiful teammates.  You guys have been a main support system on and off the field, which is the best thing anyone could ask for. From pushing each other through the beep test in preseason to always convincing me Chipotle is a great idea, I wouldn't want to be apart of another team. 2. I played for my coaches.  They always believed in every one of us when things weren't going our way and pushed us to be the best we could be. They always are there to get us focused, increase our love for this beautiful sport we call socccer (yes the extra "c" is supposed to be the accent) and to dance with us, well really only Coach Tania busts the moves :) 3. I played for my parents. Because hey without them we wouldn't be here today.  So thank them for all the hugs, cheers and delicious food they make for our tailgates! Shoutout to my mom for making her great meatballs :) and lastly 4. I played for our seniors. Coming into preseason as a freshman, I looked up to you guys (figuratively and literally) thinking if you guys got through, so could I.  You guys took the present junior class under your wings and made adjusting to college life that much easier. The last four years that you've dedicated will not be forgotten and we can't wait to keep kicking booty in SUNYAC's with you! You the real MVP's <3 So as we approach this important game tomorrow just think of all these people who have been there for you and make them proud!  We can do this ladies, we gotta want it (in the Mercedes voice) and don't worry we will get it! As Herb Brooks, one of the greatest coaches in sports history, once said, "You were born to be a player. You were meant to be here. This moment is yours."

If you didn't hear the first time, be at our quarterfinal game tomorrow at 3pm at the fieldhouse!!!! BE LOUD AND PROUD :)

Just to get everyone a little pumped!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujyr7--Fzw4

Big Weekend, Big Games & Bigger Results

As you can see, my loads of school work are killing my blogging vibes but don't worry I'll make this one extra special :) I'd rather be blogging than studying any day don't you worry!

Just a little recap of our games two weekends ago .... Our home games were nothing less than exciting (as usual) with each team battling to the very end and being a 1-1 weekend! Playing two teams we lost to the previous season, we knew what we had to do to come out on top.  Our first double header conference games only means one thing ... SECRET PSYCH!! This has been a tradition of the Plattsburgh Women's soccer team for a while now.  Everyone randomly picks a teammates name and we decorate each others locker with balloons, streamers and everything available at the local dollar store to get each other pumped up for the weekend!! It's always fun seeing who had who and it definitely gets us game ready! We beat New Paltz 2-1 in overtime fashion aka Plattsburgh Women's soccer fashion with goals from Dev and Cass! On Saturday, we played Oneonta but came up just short in the end.  We all battled for every ball that came our way and even though we did not get the result we wanted, we hope to see this team again in SUNYAC playoffs! This past weekend we also played for a great cause, Cystic Fibrosis awareness.  We wore T-shirts, raised money and sold raffle tickets for our cause and ended up raising about $500 for donations! Thank you to everyone who donated and supported Cystic Fibrosis :)

With school work adding up, it gives us more of a reason to let it all out in practice and just have fun! Many of us went home for Columbus Day break and it was a nice break from our busy school work and see family.  After break, it was right back to the work grind to prepare for Buffalo State and Fredonia.  Since we didn't have classes Monday and Tuesday for the holiday, we only had to go to classes Wednesday and Thursday, which I don't know about anyone else, but I was pretty pumped about it :) That was the start to a great weekend with a great group of people.  We hopped on the bus and made a nice little 9 hour bus ride over to Fredonia (it was not nice nor little) filled with lots of movies and singing (good and bad singing may I add)!  Towards the end, I felt my delirious phase beginning and it had felt like I was on the bus for daysssss .....

Cait Loves Movies
Lisa Being a Buffalo

With a nice stretch session the morning of the Fredonia game in the lovely city of Hamburg (filled with views of highways and that's about it) we were ready to go!!!!

We came out very strong aganist Fredonia and won 5-2 with goals from Cass, Anissa x2, Dev and Mad Sac!! Whoop whoop :) That night we did a little team bonding session and shared baby photos of ourselves! It was so funny seeing all of our fat baby photos and reallyawkward middle school photos :) If you didn't have an awkward middle school phase, you can't sit with us!! :) With a little time to kill the next day, Coach decided to take us to Fun Zone, the local arcade, to have a little fun competition.  We played lots of games including trampoline basketball, bumper cars and our teams personal favorite, Battle Zone which was similar to laser tag but the guns shot out these little rubber balls.  You would think they wouldn't hurt right? WRONG!  Coach got shot in her throat and Mad Sac and I got shot on our behinds (don't worry I don't have pictures of our bruises) and it was VERY painful. I may or may not have almost seen the light ;)

Battle Zone Ready!

With our competitive juices flowing, we were off to Buffalo.  One thing I can say about our team every game is we fight to the very end of every game.  Sarah scored our lone goal of the game and we just came up short at the very end of the match.  With a good weekend in check, we ended on another good note (before our never ending bus ride back to the Burgh) , which many were happy about ... MOE'S!! On our way back home a couple of weird things happened on the bus, but the weirdest was when our bus driver told us the bus was slanted ................ Yes he thought we were going to tip over so we all had to move to one side of the bus.  That was really fun to do at 3:30 am :)

Nichole Was Really Happy About Moes
Had To Add A Food Pic
After that long bus ride, I don't plan on being on a bus for a least a little while leading to my point of we officially got a playoff spot in our conference!!! WOOOOHHHOOOOO! With good vibes all around, we had our last non conference game vs. Johnston State on Tuesday and we killed it winning 7-1!  Anissa x3 getting that hat trick, Cait, Dev, Madison and Mad Sac all got on the scoreboard! Anissa is now the record holder for Plattsburgh with most goals in one season! Anissa you the bomb.com and keep scoring!!!!

This upcoming weekend consists of our last guaranteed home games so come out and support! Today we are playing Geneseo at 3pm and playing for a great cause.  One of our fellow teammates mother's has been battling uterine cancer and to honor her bravery we will be playing to support her battle. Our teammate has been very strong for her mom while still being far away from home and we can't wait to get a W for her family today :) Tomorrow we will be playing Brockport at 1pm and it is also SENIOR DAY!! We can't wait to get a W for our wonderful seniors as well who have put so much time and effort to make our team a family! It's going to be a great weekend and we can't wait to see everyone in the stands! This weekend determines where and who we will play in the SUNYAC quarterfinals so it will be very exciting!!! HERE WE GO CARDS!! :)

Here is a little video of our fun weekend!! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2dKSF7K4wI

And Than He Said Let Conference Play Begin

As the temperatures in Plattsburgh begin to drop and people start taking Instagrams of pretending to pick apples, it only means one thing. SUNYAC's have begun!!! Before we started conference play, we ended our last non conference game in a very exciting fashion. With a tough loss from Middlebury last year still on our minds, we knew what we had to do this season.  The game was a thriller as usual as we trailed behind 1-0 until the wonderful Anissa scored on a penalty kick.  Tying up the game and giving everyone in the stands a heart attack, Anissa scored another one in overtime with the assist from Mad Sac giving us yet another well earned victory!! So basically Anissa is a lifesaver and we all love her for her goal scoring skills, which is why she also received SUNYAC offensive player of the week also :) Woooohhhoooo!!
Anissa #20
Last weekend, we played Potsdam for our SUNYAC opener! Both teams fought to the end (literally) forcing us into yet again another double overtime.  Pretty sure I have some gray hair now from all this overtime stress! And in wonderful Cardinal fashion, Cait finished the game off for us with a awesome goal to win it 1-0!! :)

With a win under our belts, we all wanted more!  With a full week of practice and fitness music Monday's beginning, we all had a solid week of practice preparing for our next rivals! First stop was Cortland. I think everyone can agree the food this year on road trips = on point! Obviously we all look forward to food or as coach said this weekend, "We kick butt and than eat!" I mean we all our soccer players so our life consumes of three things during the fall semester: eating, sleeping and soccer.  Since I was a freshman, the rivalry between Plattsburgh and Cortland has grown and on Friday it showed until the very end.  Until we scored at the very end of the match (thank you again Anissa), it was a battle.  Ashlie slotted a ball by Cortland's defense to Anissa who scored giving us the 1-0 win!! A few of us had friends who played on the Cortland team, which was fun playing against old teammates too :)

Eggplant parm at Logan's <3
The bathroom mirrors were a little too high for me at Logan's
With our adrenaline still high from the day before, we were off to Oswego for our third conference game! The teams in our conference are all tough competitors and want to win! Cait scored a early goal in the game giving us a 1-0 lead. Battling to the end we fell just a tad short losing 2-1.  The past two games gave us a sense of what the next few weeks will look like and what we have to work on. We will continue to work hard and push each other to get the outcomes we want! We still have a lot of soccer left and always room to improve!! Our record in our conference is now 2-1.

I also wanted to take a quick moment to thank all the parents who travel on the weekends to see us play, especially as the cold weather in quickly approaching. Without them, we wouldn't be where we are today! So thank you for being there through the wins and losses, the rain and snow and being our supportive cheerleaders!

We have our first home conference play double header this weekend!!!! On Friday we play New Paltz at 3pm and Oneonta at 1pm! Hope everyone can make it :) GO CARDS!

Here's a quick video of what our road trips look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJeD85BCkZw
Watch until the end because you'll get a good laugh :)

Defending Our Turf

And we are on a roll! The past two home games we stepped up our game and have gone 2-0!!!  We beat RPI 3-0 with beautiful goals from Sarah, Mad Sac and Anissa with assists from Christen and Ash! Our next game was this past Saturday vs. Saturday during family weekend so we had a great turnout with lots of supportive fans!  Thank you to all the moms, dads and siblings out there who made the trip up! We all appreciate everything you do! We battled Skidmore until the end. Cait and Christen assisted Cass and Anissa's goals to push us past Skidmore to win 2-0 in the final minutes of the game! It's been an exciting past couple of games and I feel like we get better and better every time we step on the field :) With that being said, we hope to continue our success on the field tonight at 7pm tonight for our last match before SUNYAC play vs. Middlebury! So tell everyone to be there!! We want those bleachers to be packed out!! Also, a special happy birthday shoutout to our wonderful teammate Anissa!!!! We all hope you had the best day and get a win to celebrate tonight! She would really appreciate if everyone came out to the game tonight and see her score a goal for her birthday :)

With conference play coming up this weekend (I know I know this is going by way too fast), I just wanted to introduce the 3 ladies that have guided and supported this team to success since last spring ... Our captains Cass, Kelly and Ash! :) Here's some questions to get to know them a little bit:
Cassidy Clavet- Returning Capitan - Senior
Kelly Siry - Capitan - Senior
Ashlie Guinness - Capitan - Junior

1. What do you think is the greatest strength of this years team?
Cassidy: I think our greatest strength is our technical abilities combined with our desire to win.  We're able to play a strong technical game and play our best with having the ball on the ground at      our feet.  When you have that as well as the want to win, there's not too much that can get in our way.
Kelly: Our technical ability and our work ethic.
Ashlie: I believe the greatest strength of the team this year is our chemistry.  Last year we lacked this chemistry.  We are off to a great start.  Everyone trusts and fights for everyone.  It's awesome to be apart of a team where you know every single person has your back on and off the field.

2. When did you start to play soccer and why?
Cassidy: I started playing when I was four.  My older brother, Corey, had played and I always wanted to be just like him when I was younger.  So as soon as I was old enough my mom signed me up!
Kelly: I started when I was five because my parents basically put me into every sport you could play.
Ashlie: I remember playing from the second I started walking.  My father was a big soccer fan and just couldn't wait to get me involved since my older sister didn't really love it.  Soccer has been a big part of my life and I thank my dad for pushing me as hard as he did.  I am on the women's team here because of him!

3. If you had the opportunity to spend the day with any celebrity/professional athlete who would it be?
Cassidy: It may be cliche but I would love to spend a day with Alex Morgan.  She's become such an inspiration to a lot of people, especially female athletes.  I actually just found out she was cut from her club team when she was 13.  This just goes to show that even in the face of adversity she never gave up, and still reached her ultimate goal.
Kelly: Athlete-wise I'll go with Abby Wambach or Aaron Rodgers.  If I chose a celebrity it would be J. Cole.
Ashlie: NICK JONAS!! Or Sydney Leroux ... Either or :)

4. What is your main goal as we begin conference play?
Cassidy: My main goal heading into conference play is to keep everyone on the same page and to keep challenging ourselves and each other everyday.  We have such a talented, coachable team that I know will peak at the right time during SUNYAC play.  I can't wait to see what's in store for us because as long as we stick together, no one can stop us.
Kelly: Continue to defend our home turf and win SUNYACS!!!!
Ashlie: My main goal for the team as we begin conference play is to keep pushing as hard as we can.  We have a very hardworking team and I believe if we put our hearts and souls into each game we will come out with the outcome we want.  As Mercedes says, "We gotta want it!"

5. If you had to eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Cassidy: Chinese food! Especially lo mein!
Kelly: Totally a tie between Chipotle and pizza.
Ashlie: Mashed potatoes. Definitely mashed potatoes.

6. Describe this team in one word.
Cassidy: Hardworking
Kelly: Determined
Ashlie: Competitive

Again, we play tonight at 7pm vs. Middlebury so come out and support!!!  Just one of our little pregame pump up songs we enjoy :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4Vr8-ZP3NQ&list=RDl4Vr8-ZP3NQ

We're Coming Home, We're Coming Home, Tell All of Plattsburgh We're Coming Home!!

First home game day yaaaaaaaa!!!! We are so excited to finally play at the field house after a long few weeks of being on the road! This evening at 7pm we will take on RPI! Last season when we played this team it was a good battle and a good game to watch, so be there or be a square :)

This past weekend we made the long roadie out to Elmira and came up with a big 4-0 win that was much needed!  With a scoreless first half, we got our game together and scored 4 goals in a matter of approximately 10 minutes.  Cass, Anissa x2 and Mad Sac scored some lovely goals with assists from Dev x2 and Mad Sac! Well done ladies! On the way home we made a pit stop at Olive Garden for a little team dinner.  I never had Olive Garden, I have only seen the commercials on TV. Everyone ... they really do have unlimited breadsticks!!!! Pretty sure my table got at least 6 orders .... What?! We knew we would run it off later :) They were just soo good! The long bus ride home got a little weird with people taking embarrassing snapchats/selfies, Ash Guinness made a hammock looking bed out of her body pillow, some great movie choices and we all made it home in one piece!

Heavenly!!!!

Lookin cozy!

Bus Inventions!
With our first SUNYAC game almost a week away, I decided why not do a little interview with our wonderful Head Coach Tania Armellino!  Having a wonderful coach leads to having a wonderful team and a wonderful season!  This is Coach Tania's second year at Plattsburgh State and here is a little bit about her:

1. What is your main goal for our team as we are entering conference play?
"To be in the SUNYAC finals! Getting there is so doable and our team has been working so hard."

2. If you weren't a soccer coach, what do you think you'd be doing for a job right now?
"I would be a lawyer because I am certified. Or maybe a sports agent because I focused on that while I was in law school!"

3. What was your favorite soccer moment of all time?
"That's a hard one!  There are a lot of good ones!  One of my favorite I loved most was coming back from 2-0 against Oswego last year.  To tie it up when you're down is a hard thing to do.  It was so exciting!  The most exciting moment at Plattsburgh so far!  It shows everything you worked so hard to do.  It's so easy for anyone to be "ehhhh" and we didn't.  We were relentless and there was so much effort and determination!"

4. What is your favorite song?
"So many good ones! I would say Piano Man by Billy Joel.  It makes me happy!"

5. What is your coaching philosophy?
"I want the players to love the game, enjoy the process and keep the love of the game in a competitive environment. For me, everything else follows."

6. Who's your favorite soccer player and why?
"EASY! Fabio Cannavaro.  He was a outside back, like I was, and played for Italy in the 2006 World Cup.  He was a shorter defender and won FIFA Player of the Tournament.  This award usually does not go to defenders!  For a shorter player, he was great in the air and read everything on the field so well.  Also, his good looks are a plus!"

Yup I would agree too Coach! :)
7. How would you simply describe the 2015 Plattsburgh State Women's Soccer Team?
"True passion and one of the most hardworking teams I have ever been apart of."

We can't wait to keep up the hard work, passion and determination to continue throughout the season! AGAIN, come support the Lady Cards tonight at 7pm at our first home match against RPI! Bring your family, friends, dogs, cats and your cheering voices! Let's get it ladiesssssssss!!! :)

When Things Get Tough, We Get Tougher

This past week us Lady Cards were thinking about soccer 24/7 with three big games.  First, we took on a physical game against Keene State, which we won 5-2.  The scoring started with our senior captain Cassidy and than there was no stopping us.  Sophomores Mad Sac, Sarah Haight and Cait Gagen all had there first goals of the season as well! Whatever the sophomores ate that day, they should share some with the team :) Totally was the Panera .......  To finish off our first game of the season, Cass scored her second goal of the game! As the first roadie game of the season, we all had positive attitudes to continue working hard at practice for our upcoming big weekend for the North Country Classic.  On Saturday we faced Saint Lawrence and Sunday we played Clarkson.  Despite the high temperatures of the weekend, we put good effort and work ethic on the field.

The Saint Lawrence game was a battle from the beginning.  Going into the second half, we knew we had to score first.  After a ball from Mad Sac, Sarah Haight finished to put us up 1-0.  As our momentum and energy carried throughout the game, we did not get the result we all had wanted but knew what we had to fix for our game the next day.  The morning of Clarkson game we all knew our role to come out strong against Clarkson.  We connected well through passes, swinging the ball and did a lot of good movements on and off the ball which we practiced the past week.  Anissa Hartman took a strong shot to tie the game 1-1 in the first half.  Although coming up short with a score of 2-1, there was lots of good vibes coming from everyone knowing we have a long journey ahead of us.

Our team wants to win and it's up to us to get the outcome we want.  We all have the same goal/dream and we know what we need to do to get there.  One thing I absolutely love about this team is how everyone picks one another up when we need it the most.  Although this past weekend was rough, it was a learning experience for all. The great Carli Lloyd once said, "I think you get a little out of winning and more out of losing because it's about the struggles.  It's about the obstacles. It's about overcoming them." Win together, lose together, we are one family :)

Our next game is this evening at Union at 7 pm and we have another upcoming game this Saturday at Elmira at noon! We got this Cards!!! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baKWZDPNgiE

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For Game Day!!!!!!!

As you can see I am a big fan of corny captions, but hey who wouldn't be screaming for our first game day?!?! The Plattsburgh State Women's Soccer team has our very first non-conference game AND roadie today vs. Keene State tonight and I don't think we could be more excited! Yes, getting Panera on the way is exciting too but it's competition time!  This past week we have been practicing, working hard and getting ready to face our first opponent.  Through the fitness, tough practices and a couple of dance offs, we have finally made it to the day we have been working for since last season.

To let go of the nerves of the big game day, this past weekend all the sports teams at Plattsburgh State came together for some pizza and of course the freshmen talent show.  Our freshmen did a little number to High School Musical and although we didn't take home the trophy this year, they had great costumes for their parts! Check it out :)

To all you newbies/freshies who will learn about road trip really quick here is some things you will love/ hate and to do and not to do: 1. Free food on roadies is always great 2. Bring a pillow pet. You will not regret it 3. If you make the bathroom smell, the whole bus will smell and no one will like you 4. You say you will do homework and you will get distracted. Just let it happen 5. On long rides, you will get delirious and weird things will start to happen and last but not least 6. If you fall asleep in a weird position, with your mouth open or snoring, there will be a million snapchats of you and you will most likely end up on this blog :)

Okay so now on a serious note, Coach Tania said a quote last week and it's been replaying in my head over and over ... "If you want it, you have to sacrifice." Coming into my junior year, I've seen and experienced a lot of ups and downs with this team, but at the end of the day we are always a family after all we have been through.  This season will be all about sacrifice.  Sacrificing our bodies to not give up a goal, sacrifice any body part to get the ball in the net, sacrifice our time to get better and sacrifice all that we have to have a winning season.  As student athletes, we are asked of a lot on and off the field, but once we are playing in the SUNYAC final, I think we can all agree those sacrifices will be well worth it.  We all want a SUNYAC Championship so bad, but it will not be easy to get. Through sacrifice, sweat, time and hard work, we know we can get there and today is the day where our journey begins. So ladies, let's do what we have been working towards for the past few months. Let's win it for each other, our coaches and our seniors.  It's our seniors last first game today . Think about that for a second and put those feeling into today's game. They have dedicated four years to this team and deserve nothing less than a SUNYAC championship this year. (sorry I'm getting excited!!!!) So let's take it one game at a time because greatness starts today!

If you're in the area we would love to see our cheering fans at Keene State tonight at 6 pm!  If not our mens team has their first home opener tonight at the field house at 7 pm vs. Clarkson so catch that game if you can! The women's team has a busy weekend ahead while we participate in the North Country Classic playing St. Lawrence on Saturday at 3pm in Canton and Clarkson on Sunday at 2 pm in Potsdam! We hope everyone can make it and support the Cardinals! And of course an inspirational video to pump us up for game day!!! Caution: it gave me some chills ;)

Well Mama ... WE MADE IT!!!

Beep Test: Check. Two-A-Days: Check. Season Starting: Check.
After a long, sweat filled, tiring week the 2015 Plattsburgh Women’s State Soccer team is officially starting our season! After last preseason’s craziness with 40 girls coming in, a new coaching staff and a new field being put in place, this preseason was a lot more organized aka it wasn’t the hunger games. Everyone worked their tails off, which made preseason a lot of fun to be apart of! All of the ladies and myself were very worried about the beep test but we all pushed one another to go until one more beep. To be honest, just hearing that beep noise once makes me nervous, am I right ladies? But it’s all behind us because its regular season time baby!!!!

With some fresh new soccer gear our team may be the best looking team in the SUNYACs. You have to look good to play good :) We also got to take our roster pictures in our new away jerseys too! Despite the wind messing up some of the team’s hair at times, we are a good looking bunch and I can tell the season will be filled with lots of team selfies!
New Practice Shirts!

Picture Day!

With preseason coming to a close, we had a team dinner with a soccer girls favorite thing: lots of carbs! We had tons of pasta, chicken parm and lots of other yummy food! Shoutout to Ashlie Guinness and her family for the amazing food recipes to make our pasta dinner delicious and to get us energized for our first scrimmage vs. Saint Mikes the next day! For the first time playing against another team, everyone was so positive and really wanted to win. Anissa Hartmann was the first to score a beautiful goal right on top of the box! We connected on the field very well and hope the connection gets stronger as the season continues! We came up 1 goal short at the end but we did very well and can't wait to improve!
Pasta Dinner!

And than just like that school started today …. A relaxing way to ease back into the school life, the coaches planned a team BBQ with hamburgers, hotdogs and yard games. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon on a lovely day before classes start! It's (Almost) The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!

Hello everyone and welcome back to another pre- preseason with the Plattsburgh State Women's Soccer Team! The Lady Cards have been prepping for our upcoming season and will be back on the pitch in exactly one month! So exciting!!!

My name is Lucy Wedge and I have taken over the blog for this season and putting my writing skills to the test! I will be a junior this Fall from Westchester County, New York and currently play midfield/defense for the greatest team at Plattsburgh State :)

The 2015 season will be one to watch with 21 returners and 6 new faces on the field. We have 8 seniors on the team who bring so much passion to the game and their leadership qualities will lead us to greatness. Cass, Christen, Dev, Hannah, Kelly, Maddie, Mel and Mercedes, we can't wait to make your last season the very best! At the forefront of the team, is returning head coach Tania Armellino, Coach Frantzy Noze and Coach Gene Bushey.

I would say by our teams group chat we are pretty excited to be reunited!! From chatting about lots of World Cup play to picking out team sneakers (Yes Dev we all know heelies are the perfect choice), soccer is on our minds all day all the time. The major buzz on the United States winning the Women's World Cup ... I can't help but just think about the Plattsburgh State Women's soccer team. I can't help but think how much effort and practice was put in day in and day out to be able to hold that beautiful World Cup trophy in the air. Watching the Cup final, that's when every girl who started playing soccer at a young age, every girl who has ever faced adversity and rose to the top, every girl who would do anything to be the best saw a dream come true in the faces of 23 of the best soccer players in the world. Just like the USWNT, Plattsburgh State women's soccer has faced bumps in the road and has had times where it was hard to get back up from the rough falls, but both of our teams have a sincere love for the game that the bumps in the road don't faze us.

There have been days that our workouts have not been easy, but that is something that will make us better. Those small bumps in the road will be in the distant past when we are in season excelling. So ladies push yourself to get one more sprint in, push yourself to do 5 more push-ups and push yourself to be the very best person and soccer player you can be this season because it will be worth it when we look at back at it this upcoming fall! Give us bumps in the road and we will brush them by. Give us your very best and we will train to be better. Get pumped ladies because it's going to be a great season!  Strive for greatness, strive to be a incredible person, strive to be a fearless athlete and above all be proud to be a Plattsburgh State Cardinal. Looking forward to share our teams journey with you all soon! "You gotta succeed as bad as you want to breathe." Go Cards!!! Had to add an inspirational video :) Click Here!

Making up for Lost Time

It was a huge season for the team this year, we started with 42 players trying out in what could be compared to as the gauntlet. It turned out to be one of the best seasons Plattsburgh has had in a while. With a new coaching staff, a new turf that forced a constant change in the practice schedule, and a new season, it was busy, busy, busy. I apologize for the inconsistency of the blog posts and the fact there were none during season this year. But no worries, spring season is upon us and the blog will be at its finest. For updates on this past fall season's success check out our newsletter created by the Coaching staff!
